Small steps in the right direction can turn out to be the biggest step in life

2nd year, BSc (Hons) Mass Communication (2020 - 23)
School of Communications, XIM University
Throughout my school years, stories have intrigued me, and I have always loved reading them. Daydreaming about weaving stories has always been a major interest of mine. While I was unsure about the domain of work I wanted to pursue, I knew I was interested in studying Mass Communication. In September 2020 I joined the School of Communication, XIM University for my Ug program in BSc (Hons.) in Mass Communication.
As a student at the School of Communications, XIM University, I explored all my options and then made an informed decision. Our professors taught us the importance of professionalism from the very beginning of the first year. Our courses had to be done online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the faculties made sure to do everything to ensure that we received the best education possible. Our faculties helped to set a very solid foundation for our careers with everything from basic theory courses to complex practical courses.
School of Communications, XIM University offers great industry exposure through its internships every year. I was fortunate to have an internship with The Asian Chronicle (Journalism) in my first year of studying at the School of Communications. I had the opportunity to interact with several media practitioners and learn a lot from them over the course of the internship.
During my second year, I held the position of the Student Secretary of the School of Communications. It was a significant change in my life and taught me several valuable lessons. This experience helped me to grow as a leader. I know that nothing is easy, but the challenges I faced and the way I dealt with them have shaped my life.
I had the great fortune to spend time on campus after the university opened for offline classes in September 2021. Performing projects, assignments, and tasks practically is a much more engaging and enriching experience for a mass communication student.

Among the school's most impressive features is its audio-visual studio. The facility matches any professional cum commercial TV broadcast studio. The learning environment is absolutely surreal. The studio related course gives us a unique environment to explore and experiment with our audio-visual storytelling. We are challenged, pushed and encouraged to explore the studio creatively and break limits. Courses including camera handling, shooting, lighting, and other aspects behind the camera were awesome. We also take performance-based courses which include news reading, walkthroughs, interviews etc., which give us the confidence to perform in front of the camera. Through, graphic design, visual effects, and video editing courses, we learned how to use digital media tools to create wonders. The corporate world is also taught through courses like corporate etiquette and corporate communication. Even research and various aspects of the media and communication are part of the course curriculum, helping us gain a deeper understanding of the industry.

When I had a richer knowledge of all the fields in media, I decided that I wanted to pursue my career in Public Relations. I was fascinated by the corporate world and wanted to be in this field. The School of Communications has nurtured me to become a better professional.
At the School of Communications, we are given ample opportunities to discover ourselves. Our faculties do not only encourage academic achievement but also help us hone our skills and personalities to create a holistic university experience.
All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. As a family, the School of Communications makes sure that we all create some lasting memories. Throughout the year, we celebrate events like Diwali, Christmas, and fun evenings. This helps us bond well and spend our time beautifully.

The experience I have shared here is from September 2020 till December 2021. I am halfway through my BSc (Hons.) Mass Communication and I am looking forward to the rest of my UG life with a lot of excitement.
To conclude, I believe joining the School of Communications at XIM University has been one of the best decisions of my life. I have grown in multiple ways because of the school. With its help, I have been able to develop skills that will help me establish a successful career.
