Graphic Designing and its Growth in Popularity
All that glitters may not be gold but it surely attracts the eye. It is human nature to be drawn to appeal. With the growing popularity of Graphic Designing, we see our natures taking literal shape. Graphic Designing is a skill that has been growing in popularity over the better part of the last few decades. Statistics reveal the market size of this industry has been growing by 2.5% each year from 2015 to 2020. With the rapid growth of technology, it’s not surprising that Graphic Designing is gaining fame as both an educative subject and a profession. Its massive growth mainly derives from its extensive aesthetic appearance on the internet. An average internet user is more likely to laze while enjoying the bright colours and joviality of graphics than the flat and monotonous pictures.
Many businesses are going online and have the opportunity to market their businesses to huge audiences. But in order to do that right, these businesses need to hire Graphic Designers to have a well-developed and visually appealing representation of their ideas.
Graphics is on the rise not just as a way to market products or as a way to design packaging, but to help companies grow and show their individuality. Something as seemingly small as designing the logo of a company can impact its growth exponentially. The most important thing is that the visual appeal of a company’s graphics can turn a viewer into a buyer. Graphics have grown to be indispensable to a company. Several times, it may so happen that space management becomes a key problem to marketing and advertising, graphic designing comes to the rescue here. A simple logo does the work instead of the entire name of the company. Luxury and sports brands have adapted this technique largely, it is often seen that Louis Vuitton handbags simply contain the logo instead of the entire name or the sports trainers and sneakers only sport the logos in them.
Irene Au, a graphic designer had this to say about the value of graphic designing - “Good design is like a refrigerator-when it works, no one notices, but when it doesn’t, it sure stinks.”
Several colleges do not offer Graphic Designing as a subject, this makes it harder for students to pursue a degree and further down the road, a career in that field. In addition to this, many courses on graphic designing require you to have a basic understanding of art which again restricts students from joining them. The main problem can be concluded to be the lack of the proper resources and/or manpower to teach Graphic Designing as a course.
Here at the School of Communications at XIM University, the students do not face such problems at all. The state-of-the-art facilities and the experienced faculty have made learning graphic designing really simple and fun. We, the students, are able to learn a number of different proprietary softwares from Adobe Creative Suite such as InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Photoshop, Animate, After Effects, 3Ds Max and Maya regardless of us having prior knowledge of the subject.
In a field as of the media and communications, it is imperative to make a striking impression and to appeal to the mass or individuals and the aesthetes and appeal of the eye goes a long way in making your case. Graphic Designing is a really important field for students who want to venture into media or communications. It grooms the student to delve deeper into the technological world and gives them the ability to create intricate graphics from scratch, helping them learn a number of diverse skills that are extremely useful. Graphic designing is a field where technology meets the media and as a result, dominates and influences the taste of humankind.
